Popular English singer Adele, in a cover story for the latest edition of Elle, has revealed that her decision to postpone the Las Vegas Residency in earlier 2022 was purely artistic. The 34-year-old also reiterated that while the decision was painful for her, she has not regretted it.

“It was the worst moment in my career, by far. By far,” Adele was quoted saying. She also revealed that she was excited about the Las Vegas shows, it had no ‘soul’.

“I was so excited about those shows. It was devastating. There was just no soul in it (the shows),” she continued.

She explained that the way the stage was set up was not correct. Adele also added that the stage setup was ‘disconnected’ from her and her band. The singer also added that she felt it during a dress rehearsal, which resulted in the cancellation of the show, following which she walked up to the stage and sat down while singing a cappella inside the Colosseum.

However, the Elle cover story did not explain why Adele decided to cancel the show that particular day when she brought the topic up earlier at the Graham Norton Show.

In that interview, Adele indicated that the Las Vegas show was cancelled owing to creative disputes with Esmeralda Devlin, who designed the show and the venue. She also stated that the decision was not taken because of multiple crew members contracting the COVID-19 infection, as was announced earlier.

“I regret that I kept going until that late in the day. It would have been a really half-assed show and I can’t do that,” she said.

“People will see straight through me up on the stage and know I didn’t want to be doing it. I’ve never done anything like that in my life and I’m not going to start now,” the 34-year-old remarked.

The decision to cancel the Las Vegas shows also had an adverse effect on the promotions of her album 30, which has since then been declared her best work in her entire career. The album was also Adele’s first album in six years. She also revealed that following the cancellation, she hid from public appearances but now feels pride for standing by her ‘artistic needs’.

“I was embarrassed. But it actually made my confidence in myself grow, because it was a very brave thing to do. And I don’t think many people would have done what I did,” she quipped.

After a month, Adele made a comeback during the BRIT Awards in London. “I nearly cried at the end of my performance,” she recalled.

She said that performing at the BRIT Awards made her feel strange after letting her fans down earlier. Adele later announced a rescheduled performance date for the Las Vegas show. It will be designed by Adele herself along with Stufish, a British company.
