Popular TV actor and director Imran Khan has come up with a
new mini-series titled ‘Nancy,’ which talks about hopes in the time of the
pandemic. “Nancy’ is a story based on real life and we can find families
like  this in times like now when
everyone is struggling,” Khan said.

Elaborating on the theme, he added, “It’s a story about a
girl who had to lead a parallel life and unwillingly takes a job at a beauty
parlour to take care of her family. For many girls, this is not a joyride. With
this mini-series, I wish that people understand that even though the times we
are living in right now are tough but it will change and improve, all we have
to do is have faith and not forget our values,” he added.

Khan’s first film as an actor was 1991’s ‘Inteha Pyar Ki’ starring
Rishi Kapoor. He then worked in movies such as ‘Sangam Hoke Rahega’ in 1994,
‘Karamveer’, ‘Mohabbaton ka Safar’ in 1995, ‘Sooryavansham’, ‘Khiladiyon Ka
Khiladi’, and ‘23rd March 1931: Shaheed’.

His first appearance in a TV series was ‘Tara’. This was
followed by ‘Dastaan’, ‘Parampara’, ‘Nagin’, ‘Aashirwad’, ‘Astitwa’, and ‘I
Love My India’.

With three decades in the entertainment industry, Khan says
that there is one thing he regrets a lot.“I started as a hero in 1991 and I was
doing three-four movies together but my initial one or two movies did not do
well.  Then I took up my first TV show in
1994 so in between 91 till 94 was a bad phase. If I was financially stable, I
would not have come to television.  I
would have waited to train myself better and still try to be a hero in the
movie which I could not because I had to support my family. I took my TV job,”
he told Opoyi.

“After that,  all my
serials were a big hit,” he added.

But then did he ever think of going back to movies?

Now because of Ayushmaan Khurana and Sushant Singh Rajput,
even TV actors are considered as main heroes but if you remember in the 90s,
once you come on TV then they would not touch you. Shekhar Suman, Kawaljeet,
Parmeet Sethi everyone did that.  Once
you come on TV, they consider you like a small hero. However, things have
changed for the better. The movies are better now,” he added.

Khan says that even after so many years, the words of late
Vinod Khanna inspire him.

“I am kind of coming to terms with the craft of acting. Now
I enjoy it even more. At that time we were very young. I was the first hero of
TV as ‘Tara’  was the first show on
satellite. Everybody was new so you were getting the hang of it. We evolved and
grew with TV and as  Vinod Khanna ji once
told me that ‘if you have the stamina, you can always win the race’, so you
should not exhaust yourself,” he said.

Coming back to his show Nancy and how OTT platforms are also
struggling because of censorship, he says, “Because of censorship and the Raj
Kundra episode
, masala stuff has gone out of the window. Now genuine content is
coming. Censorship has worked in our favour so now I am motivated. I can make
bold stuff but not cheap and I am not against censorship,” he sums up.
