A rep for BBC said in a statement, “We regretfully announce, with great pain, the passing of The Founder & Owner of Babydoll Beauty Couture, The Legendary Jamie Lopez. We ask, on behalf of the Babydoll family, that you allow us time to process this tremendous loss.”

At one point, Lopez weighed 846 lbs, which made her too heavy to get up and see the world. She had designed her salon while confined to her bed. Fans of Lopez got to witness her 400 lb weight loss through the show and her first time walking inside the salon.

Super Sized Salon premiered earlier this year on WE tv. It revolved around the salon’s staff and customers. Lopez was about to begin filming for season 2. Babydoll Beauty Couture was founded to service plus-sized women.

Her long-time partner DeMarco Anthony said, “I am very shocked” after learning about Lopez’s death.

In an April 2017 post on the Facebook page of Baby Doll Beauty Couture, Lopez described why the fashion endeavor was so dear to her heart. “This salon was essential to me because I have suffered a tremendous amount of discrimination in the beauty industry. I even broke a salon chair when I went to get my hair done at a regular salon. That was enough for me I’ve dedicated my life to making a better way for the plus-size woman here at my salon. Our chairs are specially crafted to hold up to 800 pounds. Come get glamorous and a royal safe environment xoxo #thebabydolls,” she wrote.
