Jimmy Kimmel took a swipe at Tucker Carlson’s editing of the January 6 riot footage into a “nice sightseeing video” of the Capitol Hills, at the 95th Academy Awards on Sunday at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California.

Kimmel, the host of the show, came up with the jab shortly after the Oscar in the Editing category was announced.

On his show on Fox News, Tucker Carlson aired footage from the January 6th Capitol insurrection and questioned the government’s characterization of the event as an “armed insurrection.” However, subsequent analysis by media watchdog organizations such as Media Matters revealed that the footage had been selectively edited to downplay the violent nature of the insurrection.

For example, Carlson’s show aired footage of rioters walking calmly through the Capitol Rotunda, but failed to show the more violent confrontations that took place both outside and inside the building. Carlson’s editing of the footage has been criticized for minimizing the severity of the events of January 6th and for presenting a skewed and incomplete version of events.

On his show, Carlson has generally been critical of the violence that took place at the Capitol, but has also been skeptical of the government’s characterization of the events as an “insurrection” or “domestic terrorism.” He has argued that the rioters were not a coordinated or organized group, but rather a disparate collection of individuals with varying motives.

Carlson has also criticized the media and political establishment for what he sees as an overreaction to the events of January 6th, arguing that they have used the event to justify a crackdown on conservative voices and to push a narrative of white supremacy and domestic terrorism.
