While
every action fan is eagerly awaiting the release of John Wick 4 in 2023,
the Ana De Armas-led spinoff ‘Ballerina’ is also in the works. The spinoff
will start shooting this summer, according to Lionsgate Entertainment
Corporation.

The
plot revolves around a female assassin, played by De Armas, who seeks
retribution on those who slaughtered her family. De Armas’ character appeared
briefly in ‘Parabellum’ as a young ballerina who was also studying to be
an assassin at the time. Len Wiseman of ‘Underworld’ fame is directing the
movie, which is based on a screenplay by Shay Hatten of ‘John Wick: Chapter 3 –
Parabellum and Army of the Dead’ fame.

De
Armas’ brief cameo in the James Bond picture ‘No Time to Die’ last year was the
film’s crowning glory. Her appealing magnetism was on display in ‘Deep Water’,
‘Blade Runner 2049’, and ‘Knives Out’ as well.

Now
that Ballerina’s production window has been revealed, we should learn
more about the movie soon, including casting details and a tentative release
date. Until then, you can re-watch the first three John Wick flicks and
reminisce the past.

Since
its debut in 2014, the ‘John Wick’ franchise has single-handedly
dominated the action genre.

Keanu
Reeves, Ian McShane, Laurence Fishburne, Lance Reddick, and Rina Sawayama all
return as assassins in ‘John Wick 4’. Another upcoming addition to the
Wick-franchise, is ‘The Continental’, a prequel TV drama starring Colin Woodell
as a younger version of McShane’s character Winston Scott, which would focus on
the genesis of the namesake hotel where assassins from all over the world
gather.

‘John
Wick: Chapter 4’ will be released on the big screens on March 24, 2023. The date was revealed at the same event where Ana de Armas role in ‘Ballerina’ was announced.
