The Johnny Depp-Amber Heard trial grabbed eyeballs and headlines as the Hollywood stars made the details of their rather messy relationship public. Depp won the case, which was heard at Fairfax, Virginia, but Heard and her lawyer maintain that a lot of evidence that was allowed in the UK, in a different trial, was suppressed in this defamation suit.

Around 6,000 pages of documents have been unsealed showing how things were acrimonious between the parties.

Pictures, and their metadata, tell a thousand words

Depp’s side suggested that Heard’s pictures showing instances of domestic abuse were doctored and the metadata of the images proved their stance.

However, the Aquaman actor’s lawyers pointed out that “limited metadata reveals the ‘Creation,’ ‘Modified,’ “Received,’ and “Sent’ Dates are July 22, 2019, despite Mr Depp claiming this picture was taken in March 2015”. Depp’s team countered this assertion and Heard’s side was ultimately told to not pursue the matter.

A salacious history

Heard’s team said that Depp’s lawyers wished to include pictures from the Texan actor’s past, from during her “brief stint as an exotic dancer years before she met Mr Depp”. Heard’s lawyers said these were “irrelevant personal matters”, and added that Depp also alleged Heard was an escort at the time.

Depp’s team responded that they didn’t intend to bring it up but the Pirates of the Caribbean actor reserved the right to use them if they became pertinent, like speaking of injuries on Heard’s body.

The images were ultimately kept out of the proceedings.

Nightmares are made of this – the Marilyn Manson texts

Depp interacted with singer Marilyn Manson, which became evident in the course of the trial. However, the actor’s exact conversations with Manson were kept out.

The unsealed documents show exchanges like “I been reading A LOT of material on that and sociopathic behaviour…it is f—ing real my brother!! My ex c— is goddam TEXTBOOK!!!”, when Manson tells Depp he’s in an “amber 2.0” situation.

Nothing compares to these blue and yellow purple pills

Depp’s substance abuse came up in the trial, but his lawyers ensured that other parts of his medical history were excluded, saying the actor’s condition was “marginal or no probative value”.

The unsealed documents show Depp took Valtrex, Nexium and Cialis, medicines used to treat herpes, acid reflux, and erectile problems, respectively.
