Family entertainer ‘Jugjugg Jeeyo’ has registered a decent opening in theatres, collecting Rs 9.28 crore on the opening day, Dharma Productions said on Saturday.

“Saari duniya mein ji hit hai #jugjuggjeeyo sach. Blessings galore at the box office, thank you for all the love!” Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions shared on social media along with a poster mentioning the box office collection of the film.

The movie, directed by Raj Mehta, stars Varun Dhawan, Anil Kapoor, Kiara Advani and Neetu Kapoor in pivotal roles. It also stars Maniesh Paul and marks the feature debut of YouTuber Prajakta Koli.

“#JugJuggJeeyo opens on expected lines: Gathers speed in evening, after a lacklustre start in morning… Plexes of #Mumbai [select locations], #Delhi, #NCR very good… Mass pockets dull… Growth on Day 2 and 3 essential… Fri ₹ 9.28 cr. India biz,” film trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared on Twitter.

The movie’s opening collection is less compared to Alia Bhatt’s ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi‘, which had an opening of around Rs 10.50 crore.

While speaking to PTI about the lacklustre performance of Hindi films at the box office, director Raj Mehta said, “There are new theories coming out every week about what kind of films will work or won’t. Some say the trend is of big films, some say that’s not the case entirely. There’s a lot of uncertainty, I don’t think anyone knows what’s going to work. Does that add to the anxiety? Absolutely.”

‘Jugjugg Jeeyo’ has received decent reviews from critics and audiences alike. Several celebrities have taken to social media to call it an “entertaining” watch.

“There is something about watching a great film before the release, this being one, you can share what a great film it actually is. Juggjugg Jeeyo is all things wonderful, and funny and entertaining. Each one, Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor are all so good,” Neha Dhupia wrote.
