Kanye West’s Donda Academy has closed down for the rest of the academic year after controversies regarding his anti-Semitic comments which West made recently. The Academy’s principal Jason Angello confirmed this earlier in emails sent to the guardians of children enrolled in the school. “At the discretion of our founder, Donda Academy will close for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year effective immediately,” he stated. The school plans to reopen in 2023.

“Here’s the clout you’re looking for,” West said in the deleted post. “My school is being shut down.”

Donda Academy, founded by West earlier this year, was named after the rapper’s late mother. It’s an unaccredited Christian private school that provides schooling from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. The admission procedure requires the parents to sign a nondisclosure agreement, which caused a buzz in the past.

The $15,000-a-year school has around 100 students, half of them attending on scholarships funded by West and friends.

The students are also required to dress in uniforms designed by the European fashion house Balenciaga.

Its basketball team recruited the top high school players from around the country, and they were also given designer uniforms. The team was disqualified from an important tournament due to West’s comments, TMZ reported on Wednesday.

Tamar Andrews, a Jewish educator at the academy, resigned this month due to West’s hateful tweets directed towards the Jewish community.

Kanye’s career has been mired in controversies, with the latest being his hateful comments, his endorsement of the ‘White Lives Matter’ slogan, and his rift with celebrities, whom he has been accused of bullying online.

Recently, Balenciaga and Adidas ended their partnership with West over his hateful comments. Adidas states that it ‘does not tolerate anti-Semitism and any other kind of hate speech.

Adidas said ending its partnership with West would probably cost the company $246 million this year.
