Veteran Air Force pilot Gunjan Saxena, who was the first female pilot to engage in an active combat, has lauded actor Pankaj Tripathi’s portrayal of her father in the upcoming film ‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’. Taking to Instagram, she said that shae was impressed by his performance.

Sharing a video of Pankaj talking about his role in the film, she wrote, ““Father daughter duo. Respect @pankajtripathi .. You nailed it… Kudos…. The most simplistically portrayed father daughter bonding.”

“It’s a very personal film, a personal character. Gunjan, for me, was not Jahnvi Kapoor. She was my daughter, ” Pankaj, who plays the role of Anup Saxena, says in the video. Janhvi Kapoor features as Gunjan Saxena in the movie.

Speaking about meeting Anup Saxena, he said, “Meeting him was extremely calming for me. When I saw him, I kept observing his body language for a long time. He is a very interesting man, very interesting and very detail-oriented.”

‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’ is an inspiring story of the Indian Air Force pilot who faught in the Kargil War of 1999. The film embarks the journey of Gunjan, and how she became the first female pilot of the IAF to participate in active combat. 

The film, which releases on August 12, marks the debut of Sharan Sharma as a director.
