KBC 14: In between which planet’s A and B rings would you find the Cassini division?
Options:
Jupiter
Mercury
Neptune
Saturn
Answer: Saturn
Between Saturn’s A Ring and B Ring is a region called the Cassini Division, which is 4,800 km wide. Giovanni Cassini made the discovery in 1675.
Cassini division appears as a small, dark gap in the rings when viewed from Earth. Voyager, however, found that ring material with strong similarities to the C Ring is present within the gap itself. But many of the other ringlet gaps in the Cassini Division remain unexplained.
