Akshay Kumar made his Bollywood debut with director Mahesh Bhatt’s movie Aaj in 1987. The movie starred Gaurav Kumar. The name of Gaurav’s character was Akshay. Akshay Kumar had a 4.5-second role in the movie. Rajiv liked the name so much that he decided to be known to the world as Akshay Kumar and adapted it as his screen name. 

Akshay Kumar told HT that he got visiting cards made with the name Akshay Kumar even when he was a nobody. He added, “I don’t know why I changed my name..I just went to the Bandra East court and got it done. Main kuch bhi nahi tha uss time pe phir bhi maine visiting cards banwae. He is the first Hindi film actor whose films domestic net lifetime collection crossed US$341.31 million by 2013 and US$446.46 million by 2016. In 2020, he was ranked as the highest paid Bollywood actor by Forbes. He was conferred with a Padma Shri, the fourth highest Indian civilian honour in 2009.
