National Stock Exchange (NSE) announced the appointment of Ashish Kumar Chauhan as its new Managing Director and CEO. Ashish Kumar Chauhan took over Vikram Limaye, whose five year term ended on July 16, 2022. He was one of the founders of NSE where he worked from 1992 to 2000. He is best known as the father of modern financial derivatives in India due to his work at NSE.
This is Ashish Kumar Chauhan’s second tenure in the BSE and under SEBI guidelines, a candidate cannot be appointed as MD and CEO for more than two tenures. As per SEBI norm, the MD and SEO of a stock exchange has to apply and compete with other candidates for the top job after the completion of the five year term.
“Chauhan has taken charge as MD and CEO of NSE..” a spokesperson of the exchange said. He left NSE in 2002 and joined Reliance Industries group before returning to the stock exchange arena as deputy CEO of BSE in 2009 and then as CEO in 2012.
The executive management committee comprises Neeraj Kulshrestha as Chief Regulatory Officer, Nayan Mehta as Chief Financial Officer, Kersi Tavadia as Chief Information Officer, Sameer Patel as Chief Business Officer and Girish Joshi as Chief Trading Operations and Listing Sales.
Ashish Kumar Chauhan introduced mobile stock trading to India, diversified in new areas, including currency, commodities and equity derivatives, SMEs, startups, mutual funds and insurance distribution, spot markets and power trading. He is also credited for successfully handling the initial share sale of BSE.
