KBC Offline Quiz: Where is the National Defence Academy (NDA) located?

Answer: Khadakwasla

The National Defence Academy (NDA) is the Indian Armed Forces’ combined defense service training facility, where cadets from the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force train collectively before moving on to their separate service academies for additional pre-commission training. In Khadakwasla, Pune, Maharashtra, is where you can find the NDA. The academy is the first of its kind in the world.

Three Param Vir Chakra winners and twelve Ashoka Chakra winners are among the alumni of NDA. Additionally, 27 service Chiefs of Staff have come from the NDA. The current Army, Navy, and Air Force chiefs of staff are all graduates of the same NDA course. On November 30, 2019, the 137th course’s 188 Army cadets, 38 Naval cadets, 37 Air Force cadets, and 20 cadets from friendly foreign nations graduated.

In August 2021, the Supreme Court of India issued a ruling allowing female applicants to sit for the forthcoming NDA entrance exam.

Field Marshal Claude Auchinleck, who was the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army at the time of the conclusion of World War II, headed a committee that traveled the globe and delivered a report to the Indian government in December 1946 based on lessons learned by the army throughout the conflict. A Joint Services Military Academy with training modeled after the United States Military Academy at West Point was suggested by the committee.

The Auchinleck report’s recommendations were immediately put into practice by the Chiefs of Staff Committee following India’s independence in August 1947. In late 1947, the group set into motion a plan of action to commission a permanent defense academy and started looking for a suitable location. The Joint Services Wing (JSW), an interim training facility that was established at the Armed Forces Academy in Dehradun (now the Indian Military Academy), was officially opened on January 1, 1949.
