Christine Baumgartner, actor Kevin Costner’s wife, filed for divorce on Monday, according to reports. She cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason to end their marriage of 18 years.

“It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action,” Costner’s representative told TMZ.

“We ask that his, Christine’s and their children’s privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time,” the representative added.

TMZ further reports that Baumgartner has sought joint custody of their three children – aged 12, 14, and 15. In his response, Costner also sought joint custody.

Kevin Costner and Christine Baumgartner originally met at a golf course when Costner was rehearsing for his role in the movie Tin Cup. He was married to Cindy Silva at the time. The Academy Award winner reunited with Baumgartner in a restaurant after his divorce and relationship with Bridget Rooney.
