Lalit Modi’s
recent revelation that he is dating Indian film actor and supermodel Sushmita
Sen
has sent the country’s media ecosystem into a frenzy. Lalit Modi, a
fugitive from Indian law and the brain behind the Indian Premier League (IPL), cricket’s
biggest extravaganza, posted on Instagram that he was dating Sushmita Sen. On
Sunday, July 17, Lalit Modi slammed the Indian media ecosystem and referring to
Republic TV founder and news anchor Arnab Goswami, said, everyone wants to
become like him – “the biggest clown”.

Lalit Modi’s
rant against the Indian media came after the businessman was trolled for reportedly
making a mistake while tagging Sushmita Sen when he announced that the two were
dating. Modi, however, has maintained that he did not make a mistake. In his
long rant on India’s media ecosystem, the 56-year-old wrote: “Why is the media
so obsessed about trolling me apparently for wrongly tagging. Can someone
explain – I only did two pictures on Instagram & Tag is correct.” (The post

He further
said every journalist in media is trying to become like Arnab Goswami, an
extremely popular prime time Indian TV news anchor known for his characteristic
aggressive style which often lacks due substance. He called Goswami “the
biggest clown” and said the problem is that India doesn’t have libel laws.

The IPL
founder advised India’s media “to live and Let others live (sic)”. Modi, who
currently lives in the United Kingdom also referenced former United States
President Donald Trump in his post. He called upon Indian media to not follow a
“donaldtrumpstyle” and report fake news and report the right news.

Lalit Modi’s
Instagram post also dealt with Minal Modi, his ex-wife who died of cancer in
2018. Minal was 10 years older than Lalit Modi and the couple have two children
– Aaliya and Richir. Slamming media reports about her, Modi said Minal was his
best friend for 12 years while she was married to him. He said reports about
Minal being his mother’s friend are false.

The remainder
of Lalit Modi’s post dealt with how he created the Indian Premier League and
brought money to BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). He added that he
did not need to take money because he was born with a “diamond spoon”. He asked
the Indian media to “wake up” and have some “integrity”.
