Lata Mangeshkar, famously known as the ‘Nightingale of India’, has played an important role in shaping the country’s musical culture. Her contribution to the field of music has been immeasurable. In her career spanning over seven-decades, the singer’s voice has been featured in over a thousand Hindi films in 36 regional and foreign languages. 

‘Hothon Main Aisi Baat’ is a duet featuring Bhupinder Singh and Lata Mangeshkar featured in the movie Jewel Thief. The song was a remarkable achievement because of the way it was recorded and shot.

The chartbuster song of the movie Guide was ‘Aaj Phir Jeene Ki Tamanna’. The song turned out to be a cult classic since its release. Guide is the adaptation of RK Narayan’s novel under the same name and is about the story of a smooth talking tourist guide Raju. Till date, the song remains one of the most soulful romantic songs Bollywood has ever produced. 

‘Mera Saaya Saath Hoga’ is one of the most popular songs even to this day. The haunting melody featured in the movie Mera Saaya and has been immensely appreciated till today.   

‘Aap ki nazron ne samjha’ from the 1962 movie Anpadh is yet another classic song voiced by the legendary artist. The film starred Mala Sinha, Dharmendra and Balraj Sahan.   

‘Jiya Jale’ from Mani Ratnam’s 1998 film Dil se is also one of her finest performances that gained her immense merit.   

The soul stirring title track of Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham was also sung by her. The film, along with its songs, went on to become a massive hit.
