Singer Madonna’s eldest sibling Anthony Ciccone died on Friday evening, her brother-in-law Joe Henry announced on social media Saturday. He was 66 years old.

“My brother-in-law, Anthony Gerard Ciccone, exited this earthly plane last evening. I’ve known him since I was 15, in the spring of our lives in Michigan so many years now gone. As brother Dave Henry (who took this photograph) notes here, Anthony was a complex character; and god knows: we tangled in moments, as true brothers can. But I loved him, and understood him better than I was sometimes willing to let on.” Henry said on Instagram.

“Farewell, then, brother Anthony. I want to think the god your blessed mother (and mine) believed in has her there, waiting to receive you,” he continued. “At least for today, no one shall dissuade me from this vision,” he added.

Madonna has seven siblings. Her brothers are Anthony Ciccone, Martin Ciccone, Christopher Ciccone, Mario Ciccone. Her three sisters are Paula Ciccone, Melanie Ciccone, and Jennifer Ciccone.

All about the singer’s parents Silvio Ciccone and Madonna Louise Ciccone:

Silvio Anthony Ciccone, also known as Tonny, was born in Pennsylvania in 1931. He is 91 years old.

He was married to Madonna Fortin from 1955 to 1963. He had five children with her. Then he married Joan Ciccone, with who he has two.

Silvio grew up as an Italian immigrant in the US. He has an engineering degree and worked for General Motors and Chrysler. He is currently the owner of Ciccone winery and vineyard in Michigan.

Madonna’s mother died of breast cancer on December 1, 1963. Silvio married housekeeper Joan after the death of his first wife. The decision did not sit well with the Ciccone siblings, including Madonna.

After a distant relationship for years, Madonna and Silvio reconciled to help the Grammy-winning artist’s brother Martin with his struggle with alcoholism.
