Actor Shilpa Shukla, who played the role of Bindia Naik in Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘Chak De India’, says that she cried after watching the Indian women’s hockey team’s big win at Tokyo Olympics.

“I saw the match today as the commentator mentioned that this is a blossoming moment in history and this is the reason why we made the film. To bring the glory back to hockey and hockey has always belonged to us. We were masters of it and today when we saw the match, the forms and spirit of the girls were unimaginable today.  They were attacking so well and they were so confident. It was truly a magical and nail-biting moment especially the last 15 minutes and I cried,” she told Opoyi.

“I am still so excited and I can’t even tell you. It feels as if we played the match and then again it was India Australia and you know brought back so many memories. I hope this encourages others to play hockey and encourages families to send their girls to play hockey,” she added.

She is also hopeful that India will win the gold now.

“We really hope and feel deep down that it could be India’s gold. The movie was released  14 years back on August 10  and August has always been my favourite month and this somehow feels that going to be gold so fingers crossed,” she sums up.
