The Pirates of the Caribbean series is getting a whole new look with Hollywood actress Margot Robbie to star in a new female-centric film. This revamped version of Disney’s one of the most popular franchises will be penned by the actress’ Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson. According to sources, this project is different from the already announced Pirates of the Caribbean movie of screenwriter Ted Elliott and ‘Chernobyl’ creator Craig Mazin.

As per reports by the Hollywood Reporter, there is no detail about the plot of the movie. However, it will not be a spin-off of the previous Pirates movies with Captain Jack Sparrow in its center but rather a whole new story with new characters under the Pirates tag. The already announced film is going to continue at its own pace.

Johnny Depp starred as Captain Jack Sparrow in the previous Pirates movies

The movie will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced all the five Pirates movies, led by Johnny Depp, namely Curse of the Black Pearl, Dead Man’s Chest, At World’s End, On Stranger Tides and Dead Men Tell No Tales. He is also attached to produce the other Pirates movie.

Robbie, who is famed for her role in Suicide Squad, Wolf of Wall Street, Birds of Prey and I, Tonya, is going to lead this women-driven film which is still in its development phases, according to sources. She is next going to be seen in the Suicide Squad sequel by James Gunn.

Christina Hodson, on the other hand, is Hollywood’s favourite blockbuster writer. Her works, apart from Birds of Prey, include Transformers spinoff Bumblebee and DC Extended Universe projects like the Flash and Batgirl.

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is Disney’s one of the most lucrative projects of all time, with $4.5 billion gross income across all the five movies. The new movie is Hollywood’s latest addition to re-imagining popular films with women led characters.
