Mary Trump, author and niece of former president Donald Trump, was the guest on Monday’s episode of ABC talk show ‘The View’. She publicly slammed journalist Meghan McCain, the co-host of the show, who was present throughout the episode but was absent when Mary appeared for an interview to discuss the Capitol siege and racism.

“It’s a shame that your colleague didn’t have the courage to come on and have this conversation with me but I appreciate that you are all willing to take up these very difficult subjects because racism in my view is at the heart of everything that’s wrong in 21st Century America,” Mary said.

Mary also spoke about her new book, ‘The Reckoning: Our Nation’s Trauma and Finding a Way to Heal,’ which is about coping with post-traumatic stress from the Trump administration.

“One thing Donald proved is that using racism as a platform was successful, and I think that’s why we see so much strife in this country. And we need to continue having the kinds of conversations about race and gender that you have,” Mary said.

For those unversed, Friday will be McCain’s final day on the series.

Announcing her departure in early July, she had said, “This was not an easy decision. t took a lot of thought and counsel and prayer and talking to my family and my close friends. And you know, look: COVID has changed the world for all of us and it changed the way at least, for me, the way I am looking at life, the way I am living my life, the way I want my life to look like.”

McCain, who is the daughter of late former Sen. John McCain, joined ‘The View’ back in September 2017.
