The Met Gala 2021 official kicked off late on Monday night with celebrities gracing the red carpet with their gorgeous and often unique outfits. But the sporting stars upped the ante as they went toe-to-toe with the Hollywood celebs to flaunt their immaculate fashion sense and aura.

The gala was graced by athletes from all sporting spectrum — from Formula One to tennis, to basketball.

Co-hosting the 2021 edition of the event along with Billie Eilish, Timothée Chalamet and Amanda Gorman, tennis starlet Naomi Osaka arrived at the event custom Louis Vuitton gown that paid tribute to both her Haitian and Japanese heritage, according to Vogue.

Meanwhile, seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton, who is known for his exquisite taste in fashion, too was present at the event. He, reportedly, bought a table and invited young black designers to the Met Gala so they could have a platform and create their own impact on the fashion world. What a star, Lewis!

The man with the golden arm from the Golden State, Stephen Curry was pictured walking the red carpet along with Los Angeles Lakers’ latest acquisition Russell Westbrook.

Legendary gymnast Simone Biles graced the event, draped in a showgirl-inspired satin gown with crystal embroidery that mimics feathers.

Talking about her look, Biles on her look tonight: “[it incorporates] a flexibility and mobility from the mat to the Met.”

Gymnast Nia Dennis, best known for her groundbreaking Beyonce and Black Lives Matter-themed floor routines while a student at UCLA. Wearing a patriotic, blue-hued bespoke Adidas by Stella McCartney bodysuit, cartwheeled onto the red carpet.

She told Vogue: “I feel like Superwoman.”

A day after the conclusion of the US Open, the sporting fraternity made their presence felt in the Met Gala as stars of the game, walked on the carpet draping gorgeous customs. The Williams sisters — Serena and Venus — along with Maria Sharapova and US Open 2021 runner-up Leylah Fernandez dazzled the event.

The United States most decorated track and field athlete in the Olympics, Allyson Felix, with a medal tally of 11, including seven golds, was draped in Fendi couture by Kim Jones.

US women’s national football team star and activist Megan Rapinoe went all dapper for the gala as she rolled in with a purse that read “IN GAY WE TRUST.”

Fresh off lifting the US Open title, British teenager Emma Raducanu was once again making waves, this time in a black and white dress on the red carpet.

After being cancelled the previous year, this year’s connected exhibit comes in two parts: Part one is “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” and will open on September 18. Part two comes next May, when the 2022 Met Gala will occur.
