Kim Kardashian’s entry to the Met Gala 2022 was the most-awaited and she did not disappoint. In her fashionably late entry to the event, Kim Kardashian’s outfit channeled her inner Marilyn Monroe.

The dress cost a whopping $4.81 million and was purchased in 2016 by Ripley’s Believe or Not! museum in Orlando, Florida. The gold beaded body hugger was worn by Monroe when she sang happy birthday to President John F. Kennedy 60 years ago.

Kardashian had to lose 16 pounds to fit into the dress, designed by Jean Louis, according to reports from Associated Press.

Kim walked into the super-exclusive event with her partner and SNL comedian Pete Davidson, who wore a relatively simpler suit. Internet’s new power couple showed up at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday and made their red carpet debut.

Kim Kardashian’s ode to Marilyn Monroe went beyond her glittering vintage Jean Louis. While the only accessory she carried was her earrings, Kardashian’s hairstyle spoke a different language. Pete Davidson was wearing Dior Men.

“The idea really came to me after the gala in September last year. I thought to myself, what would I have done for the American theme if it had not been the Balenciaga look? What is the most American thing you can think of? And that is Marilyn Monroe”, Kardashian said told Vogue in a statement.

“For me, the most Marilyn Monroe moment is when she sang “Happy Birthday,” to JFK, it was that look”, she added.

Was Kim Kardashian’s outfit aligned with the theme?

While Kim Kardashian’s dress was thinly connected to the “America” part of the “Gilded fashion” theme, the reality TV star mostly ignored the suggestions of the organisers. But then, no one expects the Kardashians to keep up with the theme.
