Model Lila Moss won hearts online after choosing to walk the ramp with an insulin pump on full display. Lila, the 19-year-old daughter of British supermodel Kate Moss, dazzled in a printed matching jacket, swimsuit and bag, as she walked the runaway at the Versace and Fendi special event during Milan Fashion Week.
Lila, who has Type 1 diabetes, had a wireless insulin management system attached to the outer side of her left thigh. Fans hailed Lila as an inspiration to diabetics around the world. “Absolutely love that you don’t hide your pod, you’re an inspiration to so many living with T1 diabetes,” one person commented.

What is type 1 diabetes?
People who have type 1 diabetes require insulin to manage their condition. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas to lower glucose levels in the bloodstream and promote the storage of glucose in body tissues.
Type 1 diabetes (previously called insulin-dependent or juvenile diabetes) can develop at any age and is less common than type 2, according to the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
“Currently, no one knows how to prevent type 1 diabetes, but it can be managed by following your doctor’s recommendations for living a healthy lifestyle, managing your blood sugar, getting regular health checkups, and getting diabetes self-management education and support,” CDC says.
How is insulin taken?
Insulin can be administered through an insulin syringe, pen, inhaler or pump. An insulin pump delivers rapid-acting insulin through a thin plastic tube placed semi-permanently into the fatty layer under the skin.
The pump Lila Moss wore is called the Omnipod DASH, reports Good Morning America. The pump is capable of up to 72 hours of continuous insulin delivery, according to the company’s website.
