Mirzapur‘ and ‘Delhi Crime’ actor Rasika Dugal has now signed on a new role in ‘Spike’, an upcoming Hindi sports drama series. The 36-year-old actor will be playing the role of a volleyball coach on the show.

With directors Dhaval Shah and Nishtha Shailajan, the show is being produced by Imber Media, owned by Shailajan. Pratik Thakare will co-write the sports drama.

According to reports, the ‘Mirzapur‘ actor spent three months in Mumbai to train for the sport. She expressed her excitement for the role and the project and said that she was herself a sports drama fan. It keeps her on edge and so, this opportunity is exactly what she had been looking for.

Rasika also added how roles that require challenging new skills to be learnt are her forte. Volleyball is a challenging sport but learning and mastering it was an exciting opportunity for her. She further added that she was thrilled to take on a role that she had never done before.

The first stint for production of the show took place in Himachal Pradesh. It plans to return to the hill state in January next year for a second schedule.

Rasika hails from Jamshedpur, a small city in Jharkhand. As a child, she aspired to pursue medicine, but ended up with a  Bachelor of Science from Delhi University’s Lady Shri Ram college. She then did a postgraduate diploma in social communications media from Sophia College, Mumbai.  After her career plans changed, she went to Pune to complete a two-year acting course at the Film and Television Institute of India.

Rasika has begun to conquer OTT platforms through her exceptional roles as Beena Tripathi in ‘Mirzapur’, Nutan Yadav in ‘Made In Heaven‘, Neeti Singh in ‘Delhi Crime‘, Dr Meera Kapoor in ‘Out of Love’ and more.
