Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness‘, like the Disney+’Loki‘ series, might show multiple variations of Doctor Strange. Some of these may not even be Stephen at all, but rather another character who takes his place.

MCU’s Doctor Strange

Following the events of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’, this version of Doctor Strange must deal with the ramifications of his actions, which have blurred the boundaries between universes.

The trailers promised a meeting between Strange and at least one or two of his other versions, sorcerers from various worlds with very different origins and objectives. It remains to be seen how the original Doctor Strange will clash with his other personas, but The Scarlet Witch will almost certainly assist him.

Strange Supreme

After the death of Christine Palmer in his realm, viewers were introduced to a version of Doctor Strange who pursued a darker path and became an evil sorcerer in an episode of Marvel’s ‘What If…?‘ series. In his effort to resurrect his love, he delves deeper into dark magic, absorbing a few interdimensional beings along the way before becoming an evil entity himself.

The sorcerer made an appearance in the trailer for ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ after what appeared to be an unfortunate fate. Strange Supreme appears to be an opponent to the MCU’s original Doctor Strange, as evidenced by key shots in the teaser depicting him in exceedingly black lighting and wearing a wicked grin.

Defender Strange

Fans have noticed merchandise and the trailer showcasing a new Doctor Strange version known as “Defender Strange.” This Doctor Strange is based on a comic book series called The Defenders, which features a dysfunctional superhero team. The Defenders are depicted in those stories as a loose group of superheroes who lack the organisation and explicit purpose of the Avengers.

The Netflix series of the same name has already offered fans a taste of this superhero team-up. It’s unknown what role Defender Strange will have in the film, but given his history of fighting evil, he could end up being an ally to the MCU‘s original Strange.

‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ may wind up bringing even wilder forms of the iconic character to life, thanks to an infinite reservoir of Strange variants to draw from.

There are numerous variants in comic books, some of which are very identical to the original and others which pursue radically different routes. Strange 2099, for example, is a female version of Doctor Strange who coexists with Spider-Man 2099, another superhero believed to star in the next film. Sir Stephen Strange, a magician who lived in a world where superheroes filled an Elizabethan setting and historical period, is another character. Ducktor Strange, who, appropriately, is a duck from the same universe as Howard the Duck, is also present.
