Canadian rapper Drake dropped his long-awaited sixth studio album ‘Certified Lover Boy’ on Friday, however, it was a surprise appearance from an NBA superstar in his new music video that sent the social media buzzing.

Los Angeles Clippers guard Kawhi Leonard made a cameo in the video for “Way 2 Sexy” alongside rappers Future and Young Thug, both of whom have featured on the track.

The song samples the Right Said Fred hit “I’m Too Sexy” from 1991. But Leonard’s appearance in the music stunned the NBA world.

During the 2018-19 NBA season, Leonard was a key part of the Toronto Raptors’ championship run. He only played one season with the Raptors. Drake is a Raptors team ambassador and a Toronto native.

Leonard is a music fan, as proven by his Culture Jam initiative, but it was still surprising to see him in a music video with Drake, Future, and Young Thug, all dressed in all-white clothes. Basketball fans rushed to Twitter to have some fun with it, as well as the fact that he simply stood there with perfect vibes and appeared to be having a great time.

Well, whether Leonard is a “social experiment” or a “GOAT” is a discussion for another time, but definitely, his appearance has made Drake’s new music video and album the talk of the town.

“Certified Lover Boy” is a “combination of toxic masculinity and acceptance of the truth which is inevitably heartbreaking,” Drake said in a footnote on Apple Music.

The album, which features Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, Travis Scott, 21 Savage, Lil Baby and Yebba in guest spots, was originally scheduled for 2020, before being delayed till early 2021. It was further delayed when the 34-year-old injured his anterior cruciate ligament, which required knee surgery.

Meanwhile, Drake has never shied away from using athletes in his music videos. For the 2020 song “Laugh Now Cry Later,” Cleveland Browns star Odell Beckham Jr. caught passes in the video.

The album’s cover, designed by artist Damien Hirt, features a number of pregnant woman emojis.

‘Certified Lover Boy’, which has 21 songs, comes days after Kanye West’s album ‘Donda’ dropped on August 29 – which was pushed ahead of its September 3 release, as fans debate which one is better.
