Digital streaming giant Netflix on Monday announced that it is going to make a prequel to its much popular fantasy drama series, ‘The Witcher’.
‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’ will be a six part live-action limited series, set 1,200 years prior to the storyline of the ‘The Witcher,’ which featured Hollywood actor Henry Cavill in the lead role.
Taking to Twitter, the digital streaming platform wrote,”1200 years before Geralt of Rivia, the worlds of monsters, men and elves merged into one, and the first Witcher came to be.”
“Announcing The Witcher: Blood Origin, a 6 part live-action The Witcher spin-off series from Declan de Barra and Lauren Schmidt Hissric,” it added.
Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, the executive producer of the upcoming show, expressed her excitement at the announcement of the show. Retweeting the original announcement, she wrote, “This has been the toughest secret to keep! I’ve always wanted to dive deeper into the myth and lore of the Continent, and now fans will have a chance to explore it with @declandebarra in a prequel series, THE WITCHER: BLOOD ORIGIN. Elves, and enemies, and the end, oh my…”
‘The Witcher’ released in December 2019 on Netflix and registered 76 million views globally within first four weeks of its release. Based on a book series of the same name, it embarks the journey of Geralt of Riviria, a mutated monster hunter. Starring Henry Cavill as Geralt, the show featured Anya Chalotra, Freya Allan and others in pivotal roles.
