There is no official news about a new season of the teen adventure series, and it may be early to expect one given that Netflix has not renewed the series for a third season. However, the series appears to be performing well, as it has reached to the top 10 charts of the streaming giant’s list in the United States. If the season does go through, the following series may arrive around this time next year, since the creators presented the show a year after the announcement of the second season.

EW asked showrunners Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burketo explain season 2 ending cliffhangers and tease what it all means for a possible third season — and be happy because they promise a lot more Pogue romance is on the way. So much for JJ’s rule on “no ‘Pogue-on-Pogue mackin’!”

On being asked if they always knew that Big John is alive and did they  know they were going to end this season on that reveal, Jonas Pate said,“It was always a possibility, and now we have a card to play with. This game was a no-brainer as the season progressed. It was a concept that has been floating about for a while, and it sets up certain themes for the third season.”

Burke further added, ”I think it’s going to play a key role in season 3 and serve as its spine. It’s a major surprise that will undoubtedly dominate the third season. What others will think of him or if they will even remember him excites me! In the hope that it will succeed and that people would be delighted, we are crossing our fingers every day.”

The Pogues have now lost a fortune twice — first with the gold and then with the cross. EW questioned the creators how this would affect them going into the new season, especially Pope. Burke simply said, ”To avoid spoilers, I will just state that it is to be determined.” Whereas Josh gave a sneak peek saying, “You know how [author Michael Crichton] uses science, right? It’s similar to the way we utilise history to create the mythology surrounding the cross and gold. It has to become more of a mystery as the series progresses.”
