A native of New York, Thorpe was brought up in a Christian home. His early years included four times weekly attendance at Soul Saving Station Church. Rap music was not permitted till he was in his early teens. He began singing at a young age in the church choir but discovered rap after listening to a DMX mixtape. Thorpe started rapping in seventh school and became a fan of Kanye West.
