Prey is the prequel to Predator and is available for streaming on Hulu. Upon release, the Dan Trachtenberg-directed movie became the streaming platform’s most popular premiere of all time.

Disney, in a statement, shared further details – adding that Prey has beaten all films and shows to become the most-watched premiere for a single release. Moreover, it is also the most watched in Star+ in Latin America and Disney+ in places where Hulu is not available.

Notably, Disney doesn’t share the viewership data, which is a common practice among many streaming sites. In comparison, Netflix releases hours viewed for both shows and films but counts them in a very different way, and the data is also available for a specific period.

Despite being an official entry in the Predator franchise, the film was released directly on OTT, eschewing theatres. However, The Hollywood Reporter informed that the project was always planned as a direct-to-streaming entry, and might have been helped by the commercial failure of the 2018 Predator.

The movie stars Amber Midthunder as Naru, a Comanche tribe member looking to prove her skills as a hunter. While the character’s an excellent tracker, she doesn’t get as much respect among the male hunters but her brother Kima is a top-notch hunter respected by the entire tribe.

Set in the 1700s, Naru must rely on her instincts and wits to outsmart the Predator – a member of an alien race – that lands on earth and starts killing humans for sport.

The director made his name with 10 Cloverfield Lane, the tightly scripted horror follow-up to Cloverfield. Trachtenberg has also helmed the Black Mirror episode titled Playtest, which touches upon elements of horror too. He was behind the camera for the pilot episode of The Boys, the wildly popular Amazon Prime series critiquing superheroes, and directed the Portal fan-film, No Escape, which became viral.
