Founding members of the British rock band Queen, Brian May and Roger Taylor, revealed that they plan to take out a previously unreleased song featuring iconic vocalist Freddie Mercury in September.

Speaking to BBC Radio 2 ahead of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee performance, Taylor said “We did find a little gem from Freddie, that we’d kind of forgotten about and it was — It’s wonderful. Actually, it was real discovery. It’s from ‘The Miracle’ sessions, and I think it’s going to be out in September.”

‘The Miracle’ is the band’s 13th studio album, which was released in 1989 and recorded in 1988 when Queen was having a particularly productive time. Mercury had noted in an interview that he’d recorded 30 songs for the album, of which some became B-sides, while many like ‘Hang On In There’ and ‘Chinese Torture’ were bonus tracks for the release of the original CD.

May spoke of how the song was almost hiding in plain sight, saying “We looked at it many times and thought, oh no, we can’t really rescue that. But in fact, we went in there again and our wonderful engineering team went, ‘okay, we can do this and this.’ It’s like kind of stitching bits together. But it’s beautiful, it’s touching piece.”

Taylor added that it was an extremely passionate piece.

Since Mercury died in 1991, the band has released many of his previous works that didn’t see the light of day. This includes ‘Queen Forever’ the 2014 compilation of such songs.

Adam Lambert is now the lead vocalist of the band, and the jubilee celebrations saw Queen belt out a medley of their most popular hits, including ‘We Will Rock You’, ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ and ‘We Are the Champions’.

The band is also touring and set to have three shows at London’s O2 arena this week, before returning to deliver another six performances between June 14 and 21.
