Actor Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra have filed a defamation case against Sherlyn Chopra, seeking Rs 50 crore in damages for her “lewd, below the belt” comments on the couple on social media and an apology as well. This comes after Chopra had filed a lawsuit against the actor and her and businessman husband in a sexual harassment case a few months ago. Last week, she filed another complaint with the Mumbai Police, accusing the couple of fraud and harassing her sexually and mentally.
Sherlyn had recently accused businessman Kundra of sexual harassment, criminal intimidation and cheating. She had given a statement against Kundra following his arrest in a porn racket case.
The statement of the defamation suit filed against Chopra reads, “The entire allegations made by Ms Sherlyn Chopra against Mr Raj Kundra and Ms Shilpa Shetty Kundra, are concocted, false, fake, frivolous, baseless, without any evidence, even to Ms Sherlyn Chopra’s knowledge, and have been made with an ulterior motive to defame and extort money.”
In April of this year, Sherlyn Chopra notified Shilpa Shetty that her complaint was false, and that it was her lawyer who advised she file a criminal charge against Raj Kundra . The notice mentions that Sherlyn called Shilpa and said she was sorry for filing a criminal case against Raj Kundra and that she would drop the complaint unconditionally. The couple claim Sherlyn demanded Rs 48,00,000 on October 4, 2021, with the intent of extorting money through her lawyer.
Sherlyn Chopra’s statement was recorded earlier in the porn racket case against businessman Raj Kundra. In the statement she had accused Kundra and his company’s creative director of relentlessly following her to work for the mobile application named ‘HotShots’. This was a part of the charge sheet that was filed by Mumbai Crime Branch officials in the porn racket case involving Raj Kundra.
