On being chosen as one of the brand representatives of American lingerie brand Victoria’s Secret, actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas said that “representation matters” and as a “founding partner of #TheVSCollective and advisor to the business this is exactly what I intend to do.” In a major brand overhaul, the luxury lingerie brand abandoned its Angels and replaced them with a group of women, who range from a footballer to a transgender model.

Taking to social media, Chopra wrote that it was “incredible” to see the reactions to the announcement. “It’s fuelled me further and I am excited to bring about meaningful change at one of the worlds most iconic brands,” she wrote.

“I’m so proud to be in the company of the Collective of incredible women that will helm this change,” The White Tiger actor added.

Victoria’s Secret has been much criticised for promoting the idea of beauty from a male perspective. It was also criticised for being sexist and promoting the stereotype of feminine beauty.

In a major brand revamp, the company brought on board seven inspirational women, from diverse fields. Other than the Indian actor, the group includes 35-year-old football star Megan Rapinoe, 17-year-old Chinese-American skier Eileen Gu, 29-year-old biracial model Paloma Elsesser, who was the rare size 14 woman on the cover of Vogue.
