Actor Roger E Mosely is best known for playing TC in the original Magnum PI series. He died at the age of 83. Mosely played Theodore “T.C.” Calvin, a helicopter pilot, and friend of protagonist Tom Selleck’s character. The actor then returned to the Magnum PI reboot in 2019.

The drama show saw the original TC return in a guest role in an episode. He played John Booky, barber to TC, in the reboot. The character is not afraid to speak their mind either, and TC goes to Booky, not just for haircuts, but also to gain some wisdom.

Having a cast member from the original series helps form a bond between the new show and the original, which is what the Magnum PI reboot has done.

In The Day Danger Walked In, TC brings Booky to La Mariana to hang out when a hurricane hits Oahu. However, they end up arguing about Booky’s age and capabilities. However, the character takes them all by surprise when Booky evades capture and comes back to free TC, Rick, Magnum, Higgins and Ethan. They’d been taken hostages and Booky ends up helping them the most.

Despite Booky’s advanced years in the reboot, he’s shown to be a Vietnam War veteran, and thus someone capable of holding their own.

Fans theorized that Booky’s introduction might pave the way for him to be a series regular, but the former governor of Minnesota has only appeared in one other episode, apart from the abovementioned entry in 2021.

In 2019, Booky appeared in A Kiss Before Dying, another episode of the series, where the Dobermans find what appears to be a human bone, setting off an investigation where Magnum and Higgins help Katsumoto get to the bottom of the matter.

When Booky is introduced, the character complains about not having left the island due to his fear of flying.
