Within two days of its release, Saif Ali Khan-starrer political drama ‘Tandav’ has landed itself in trouble over hurting Hindu sentiments.

On Saturday, BJP MP Manoj Kotak wrote to Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar, requesting him to ban the web series.

“It seems that makers of Tandav have deliberately mocked Hindu Gods and disrespected Hindu religious sentiments,” he wrote in the letter to the minister. He also took to Twitter to condemn the web series.

“OTT Platforms having absolute freedom from censorship has led to repeated attacks on Hindu sentiments, which I strongly condemn. spoke to hon. Prakash Javdekar ji and requested that OTT content be regulated in the interest of integrity of India & we are fast moving in that direction,” Kotak tweeted.

This comes hours after netizens began trending #BanTandavNow on Twitter over a particular scene showing Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub performing a play, dressed like Lord Shiva. There are a few jokes between Narayan and Lord Shiva in the scene, which did not go down too well with social media users.

The Ali Abbas Zaffar’s directorial released on Amazon Prime Video on January 15, 2021, and stars Dimple Kapadia, Sunil Grover, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Kumud Mishra, Gauahar Khan, among others.
