Actors Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur’s  Jersey that was slated to release on December 31 has now been pushed for further date. Amid the rising COVID-19 and Omicron cases in the country, the makers have decided to push the film for new date.

The official statement can be read, “In view of the current circumstances and new covid guidelines we have decided to postpone the theatrical release of our film Jersey. We have received immense love from you all so far and want to thank you all for everything. Until then everyone please stay safe and healthy, and wishing you all the best for the new year ahead!! Team Jersey!!”

Film critic Taran Adarsh too, confirmed the same on Twitter, “#Xclusiv… #BreakingNews… #Jersey POSTPONED… WON’T RELEASE ON 31 DEC… New date will be announced shortly… Industry talk that #Jersey will be Direct-to-OTT release is FALSE (sic).”

With the rising COVIID and Omicron cases in the country, certain states have already started to shut down places of public gatherings such as theatres, spas, gyms, etc. 

The trailer of Jersey was well- received by audience. Shahid Kapoor had written an emotional message on Instagram prior to Jersey’s trailer release.

“ITS TIME ! We have waited to share this emotion with you for 2 years. This story is special. This team is special. This character is special. And the fact that we get to share it on the big screen with you all is special. I don’t have words to express my gratitude. I hope you all feel what I felt when I played him. Here we go (sic),” he wrote.
