Ricarlo Flanagan, an actor and a stand-up comedian best known for his role in ‘Shameless’ and also being a semifinalist on Season 9 of ‘Last Comic Standing,’ died from COVID-19 complications over the weekend at age of 40.

Confirming the death, Flanagan’s agent Stu Golfman told Variety,  “Sadly this pandemic has taken the life of an extremely talented performer and even nicer human being. Ricarlo will be greatly missed.”

In a statement to Deadline, Golfman said, “Ricarlo was one of the nicest people I have ever met in my life and a joy to work for. He will be missed dearly.”

Just a week before his death. Flanagan tweeted about contracting the virus.

“This COVID is no joke. I don’t wish this on anybody,” he tweeted at the time.

Flanagan released his debut comedy album, Man Law, in 2013 and two years later, he participated in the NBC comedy show, Last Comic Standing. He went on to play recurring roles on shows including ‘Shameless’ and ‘Walk the Prank.’

Flanagan also enjoyed a career as a rapper. The released three albums under the moniker Father Flanagan. His fourth album, Both Sides Of The Brain, was scheduled for release on October 13.

His loved ones have since set up a GoFundMe page to assist with his untimely death. 

“The news of a loved one’s death is never something easy to hear, let alone if you are far away from the individual. Our dear friend has suddenly passed away and sadly was far from his family. Ricarlo Flanagan was a loving son, grandson, cousin, nephew and friend with many amazing talents. He brought laughter to every room he walked in. We would like to get him home to his family in Cleveland, Ohio, so his family can put him to rest. We ask that you please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers,” reads the GoFundMe’s description.
