India’s Independence day, August 15, will fall on a Sunday this year. This means, along with celebrating 74 years of independence and India’s historic outing at the Tokyo Olympics, you will also get a chance to enjoy some new film and series releases across OTT platforms. 

Here is a list that will make planning the weekend 

1) Shershaah

This biopic starring Siddharth Malhotra is based on the life of Kargil martyr Captain Vikram Batra. Directed by Vishnuvardhan, the film was released on August 12 on Amazon Prime Video. Co-produced by Karan Johar, the film also stars the likes of Kiara Advani, Shiv Pandit and Javeed Jaaferi.

2) Bhuj: The Pride Of India

‘Bhuj: The Pride Of India’, showcasing the glory of the Indian army, recreates that 1971 Indo-Pak war when the IAF airstrip at Bhuj was destroyed in combat. Three hundred local women from Gujarat, led by IAF squadron leader Vijay Karnik, heroically toiled day in and day out to reconstruct the airbase. The movie will release on Disney+ Hotstar on August 13. It stars Ajay Devgn as the protagonist and the likes of Nora Fatehi and Shraddha Kapoor. 

3) Kuruthi

Starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Roshan Mathews in pivotal roles, ‘Kuruthi’ is a Malayalam thriller that was released on Amazon Prime Video on Wednesday. It is directed by Manu Warrier, written by Anish Pallyal, and produced by Supriya Menon through the company Prithviraj Productions.

4) Brooklyn 99

The NBC police procedural sitcom television series features a team of diverse and quirky detectives led by an eccentric commanding officer, Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher) solves crimes in Brooklyn, New York City. This is the last season of  Brooklyn 99 and is expected to be a fun one

5) Beckett

Starring John David Washington, ‘Beckett’ is a political thriller that revolves around an American man, who becomes a target of Greek authorities after a devastating accident. The film will release on August 13 on Netflix.
