Famed Irish singer-songwriter Sinead O’Connor, who is struggling to come to terms with the suicide of her 17-year-old son Shane, has left her fans concerned after she took to social media to let her feelings known.

In a series of now deleted tweets, the 55-year-old expressed what appeared to be her intention to follow her son to the grave. “I’ve decided to follow my son. There is no point living without him. Everything I touch, I ruin. I only stayed for him. And now he’s gone. I’ve destroyed my family. My kids don’t want to know me. I am a shit person. And you all only think I’m nice because I can sing. I’m not,” she wrote.

“…I am lost without my kid and I hate myself. Hospital will help a while. But I’m going to find Shane. This is just a delay,” she further wrote, sparking a landslide of reactions on social media from concerned fans.

However, on Friday, the singer apologised for her tweets from Thursday, saying, “I’m very upset. My son was the love of my life. I am sorry I’ve upset tulsa and just about every other human being on earth also. I am ruined without my son. I am sorry I’ve upset anyone.”

Earlier, O’Connor had accused Tusla, Ireland’s child and family agency, of shirking responsibility after 17-year-old Shane escaped suicide watch from Dublin’s Tallaght University Hospital. However, she retracted her accusations later.

Shane had escaped from the hospital on January 6 and his body was found 12 miles south of Dublin, in Bray, on January 7. Following Shane’s tragic demise, O’Connor took to Twitter to announce his passing to her fans, writing, “My beautiful son, Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God. May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace.”

The 55-year-old singer was hospitalised on Thursday following her breakdown on social media. She is a mother of four, and Shane was her third child. Her other children are Jake, Roisin, and Yeshua.
