Sonali Phogat, actor and BJP leader from Haryana, died of a heart attack in Goa, police said on Tuesday.

The 41-year-old was brought to St Anthony Hospital at Anjuna in North Goa district on Monday evening after she complained of uneasiness and was pronounced dead

“Prime facie, the cause of death is established as heart attack but further medical examination is on,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police (Mapusa) Jivba Dalvi, PTI reported. The postmortem would be conducted at the state-run Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim

BJP Hisar district president Capt Bhupender said, “Sonali ji was in Goa. I spoke to her assistant and he said that she died of a heart attack”.

Phogat, who is also a former Tik Tok star, joined the BJP in 2019 and unsuccessfully contested the last Assembly election from Adampur Assembly constituency against Kuldeep Bishnoi.

Sonali Phogat family

Born in 1979, Sonali Phogat belonged to a Jat family from Hisar, Haryana. Her mother is a homemaker while her family is a farmer. She has three siblings – a brother and two sisters. 

She was married to Sanjay Phogat who was found dead under mysterious circumstances at their Hisar farmhouse in 2016. They have a daughter named Yashodhara.

When Sonali participated in the 14th season of the reality show Bigg Boss, Yashodhara made an appearance in one of the episodes. They met each other through a glass door.

Sonali was seen calling her daughter by her nickname Lotu. She instructed her daughter to eat more ghee till the time she doesn’t leave for her hostel. Her daughter’s age is, however, not known.
