Release Date:

Currently, ‘Knuckles’ does not have a specific release date. However, since the show takes place between Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and its sequel, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, it is expected to premiere before the third film’s release date of December 20, 2024. Fans can anticipate a likely spring 2024 release, but official confirmation is yet to be announced.

Where to Watch:

‘Knuckles’ will debut exclusively on Paramount+. As Paramount Pictures owns the streaming service and is responsible for the creation of both Sonic the Hedgehog films, it serves as the ideal platform to showcase the spinoff series.

Plot and Cast:

‘Knuckles’ centers around Idris Elba’s reprisal of his role as the powerful red Echidna, Knuckles. Set after the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the series follows Knuckles’ journey in an action-packed comedy adventure focused on self-discovery. Knuckles agrees to mentor Wade, played by Adam Pally, and trains him as his protégé in the ways of the Echidna warrior.

Joining Elba and Pally, the star-studded cast includes Edi Patterson, Julian Barratt, Scott Mescudi, Cary Elwes, Christopher Lloyd and Ellie Taylor in supporting roles. Rory McCann will make a guest appearance, and Tika Sumpter will reprise her role as Maddie Wachowski from the Sonic the Hedgehog films. While it remains unknown if Ben Schwartz, James Marsden, or Colleen O’Shaughnessey will return for the series, their involvement has yet to be confirmed.

Production and Crew:

‘Knuckles’ is currently in production in London, England. The pilot episode is written by John Whittington, who also worked on the screenplay for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and serves as the head writer and executive producer of the series. Jeff Fowler, the director of both Sonic the Hedgehog films, is helming the pilot episode and serves as an executive producer alongside Toby Ascher, Neal H. Moritz, and Idris Elba. The series will feature a lineup of talented directors, including Ged Wright, Brandon Trost, Jorma Taccone, and Carol Banker. Paramount Pictures collaborates with Sega of America to produce the series.

As fans eagerly await the release of ‘Knuckles,’ they can enjoy other Sonic adventures such as the 2020 film Sonic the Hedgehog and its upcoming sequel, Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Additionally, the animated series Sonic Boom offers a different take on the Sonic franchise, showcasing the beloved characters in their fight against the nefarious Doctor Eggman.

With the promise of a thrilling and comedic exploration of Knuckles’ character, ‘Knuckles’ is set to expand the Sonic the Hedgehog universe and captivate audiences on Paramount+ in the near future.
