The first day of the San Diego Comic-Con 2022 had the Marvel animation panel announce their releases. They presented a never-before look at some of their forthcoming animated series, like “Marvel’s What If..? Season 2”, “X-Men ’97”, “Marvel Zombies” and “Spider-Man: Freshman Year“.

SDCC 2022 started on July 21, 2022, and has already featured a ton of new information, including trailers, and announcements, for popular properties like Marvel, ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power‘, and Game of ThronesHouse of the Dragon.

“Spider-man: Freshman Year” is supposed to be a prequel of sorts to Tom Holland’s debut in “Captain America: Civil War”. The events here occur without interfering with Holland’s live-action hero and his appearances since “Freshman Year” takes place in one of the franchise’s other realities. The animated series from executive producer and chief writer Jeff Trammell intends to enrich the tale of the masked hero with many of the present and previous characters associated with the character, much to the delight of the fans.

Here’s a look at all the characters who will be appearing in the animated series:

Peter Parker
Of course, he will be in the series! Although the plot is based on Peter Parker’s first year of high school, it appears that he has already made a name for himself as a superhero in a costume. Although it’s not yet known who will voice the series’ main character, Hudson Thames, who voiced Spider-Man in What…If?, might again take it on.

Harry Osborn

Harry Osborn, Peter’s closest comic book pal, will finally make his MCU debut.

Norman Osborn

Like Tony Stark in “Spider-Man: Homecoming”, Osborn assumes a mentor-like position in “Freshman Year”. Osborn will run into Peter and Spider-Man, but it is unknown if he will eventually turn into the Green Goblin.

Doctor Strange

Doctor Stephen Strange was last seen with Spider-Man in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and it looks like they will have more adventures together. Although it is unknown if Benedict Cumberbatch will play the sorcerer again, the fact that the series is set in some capacity within the MCU and the fact that he provided the voice of Strange in “What…If?” raise the possibilities of the British actor’s return.

Daredevil

Marvel’s most popular lawyer is back after a high-profile cameo in “Spider-Man: No Way Home”. In fact, it is confirmed that Charlie Cox is returning to play Daredevil in the MCU.

Aunt May

“Freshman Year” will feature the return of Aunt May after the “No Way Home” twist. However, it is still not known whether she will be the white-haired, old Aunt May as she was in the “Spider-Man: The Animated Series” (released in 1994); or will she be the younger version as portrayed by Marisa Tomei.

Doctor Octopus

The famous Spider-man villain is also going to be stopping by after he was last seen in “Spider-man: No Way Home”. Doc Ock’s look, in this version, also pays homage to comic books with his goggles and bowl-cut hair.

Mac Gargan/Scorpion

In “Spider-Man: Homecoming”, Michael Mando played the supporting character Mac Gargan in a cameo when he asks the Vulture the real identity of Spider-Man. Although we never saw him fully develop into Scorpion, as teased in the post-credits scene, he will be making an appearance in “Freshman Year”

Amadeus Cho

Bruce Banner’s prospective successor, She-Hulk is going to make an appearance in the animated series.

Nico Minoru

The character of Nico Minoru from Hulu’s “Marvels Runaways” is also going to make an appearance. According to the show, she is Peter’s closest buddy.

Bentley Wittman/Wizard

It is confirmed that Bentley Wittman is also present in the series and is going to be voiced by Paul F. Tompkins. This will be the character’s debut in the MCU.

Dmitri Smerdyakov/Chameleon

Chameleon holds the distinction of being Spider-Man’s first foe in comic books. The “Kraven the Hunter” movie (2023) from Sony is said to star Fred Hechinger as Chameleon. In “Spider-Man: Far From Home”, Numar Acar played Dmitri, the bus driver who took the children on the trip.

Anton Miguel Rodriquez/Tarantula

The Tarantula will also be making an appearance in the series. It will be interesting to see how Disney reimagines this spider-like character.

Aleksei Sytsevich/Rhino

The hefty Rhino was portrayed by Paul Giamatti in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” and is all set to make an appearance again in the animated series.

James Sanders/Speed Demon

James Sanders is going to make an appearance as Speed Demon in “Freshman Year”. The character was first introduced as the Whizzer in the comics, but after leaving the Sinister Squadron, he started going by the moniker Speed Demon.

Milos Masaryk/Unicorn

The Unicorn will also be stopping by, although it will be fascinating to see how he fits in here given that he is typically connected with Iron Man.
