Squid Game: Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is impressed by this Netflix strategy
Jeff Bezos appreciated Netflix for getting 'it right so often'
He praised the platform's 'internationalization strategy' behind global hits
Amazon founder clarified the words of appreciation for Netflix were 'just simple admiration'
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is all praises for Netflix and its "internationalization strategy" that has helped the video-streaming platform turn many non-English shows such as Money Heist into global hits. In a tweet, Bezos also appreciated Netflix chief executive officers Reed Hastings and Ted Sarandos for getting "it right so often." He shared his excitement for Netflix's latest offering Squid Game, a South Korean survival drama television series that Ted Sarandos believes will soon trump Bridgerton and The Witcher as the platform's most sampled original-series launch ever.
Bezos, whose Amazon Prime is in direct competition with Netflix, also shared a Vulture article on Squid Game.
Sharing his excitement for Squid Game, Bezoz said he "can't wait to watch the show."
The words of appreciation left many Twitter users wondering if Bezos was hinting at a collaboration with Netflix, or even interested in acquiring the rival streaming platform.
"Something's up," one Twitter user wrote, to which Bezos responded "No, just simple admiration."
Since its release on Netflix two weeks ago, Squid Game has become a viral hit with news agency Reuters reporting that South Korean Internet service provider SK Broadband has sued Netflix to pay for costs from increased network traffic and maintenance work because of a surge of viewers.
The nine-part series revolves around 450-odd contestants playing to win a jackpot amount, with losers condemned to die.
Luck also followed a similar formula, thus leaving fans screaming that ‘Bollywood did it first.’
Recently, many Twitters users pointed to the plot similarities between Squid Game and Bollywood film Luck.
“If you want to see difference between Bollywood and foreign movies/ television series, Then watch ‘squid games’ Korean drama. It has same story as Luck film but presented way way better than Luck film,” one person commented.
