Squid Game‘ actor Jung Ho-yeon spoke to ‘Killing Eve’ star Sandra Oh during ‘Actors on Actors’ on Apple Tv+, revealing that she was strangely happy when it was time to film the death of her character Kang Sae-byeok.

“Maybe it’s weird to say it, but while I’m shooting my death scene, I was so happy”, the 27-year-old said, adding, “It was the most comfortable scene I ever had.”

Having invested herself in the world of ‘Squid Game’ for a long time, the South Korean actor was prepared to let the character go. She was therefore at peace with director Hwang Dong-hyuk’s call.

“It’s because I’ve been living with my character over a few months, and then there is a time that I have to let her go, and I kind of feel like I can happily let her go, because I can understand”, Ho-yeon said, adding, “Maybe not fully, but I’m the one who can understand her most in this world, so I know her stress, and I know how her life was [such a] struggle and hard. So it wasn’t that bad or sad.”

The actor also opened up about the mental and physical difficulties that came with the sudden fame ‘Squid Game’ brought to all cast members. The series became an instant hit on Netflix, winning critical and audience approval.

“In that moment you realize that ‘Oh. Maybe this was too much,'” Ho-yeon said. She also told Oh about a recent spat of sickness she’d suffered, adding, “I think I just try all the time to be me, healthy me, but it’s not going to be easy, and then I’m still going to make mistakes. I’m struggling, but trying.”

‘Squid Game’ has already been greenlit for a second season, but the show’s creator hinted at a possible delay, and the next instalment is only likely to come out in late 2023 or early 2024
