The filming has been suspended on "Star Trek: Picard" after close to 50 cast and crew members tested positive for COVID-19, Hollywood Reporter reported, quoting sources.
The work on the drama was halted on Monday but is scheduled to resume Friday. The show's lead Patrick Stewart is reportedly not among the people who have tested positive for the virus.
The Paramount+ series has one of television’s biggest crews, numbering over 450 staffers.
'Picard' was renewed for a third season on Paramount+ in September. Seasons two and three are being filmed back to back in Los Angeles to control costs and accommodate production schedules.
Apart from Stewart, the series also stars Alison Pill, Isa Briones, Evan Evagora, Michelle Hurd, Santiago Cabrera, Jeri Ryan, Orla Brady, John de Lancie, Annie Wersching and Brent Spiner star in Picard.
Production has been suspended on a number of shows amid the omicron surge. Among them is CBS Studios-produced series including 'NCIS.'
The surge has also promoted the Grammy Awards to be postponed. It was initially scheduled to take place at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on January 31.
“After careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners, the Recording Academy and CBS have postponed the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards Show," Recording Academy and CBS said in a joint statement.
"The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority. Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on January 31st simply contains too many risks. We look forward to celebrating Music’s Biggest Night on a future date, which will be announced soon."
