‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 has a lot going on with Vecna’s plan to bring the Upside Down into the real world. While the heroes from Hawkins try to regroup, Steve Harrington and Nancy Wheeler are reunited. The two had a brief romantic history before the latter got into a relationship with Jonathan Byers, Will’s elder brother.

However, since then, Steve’s character arc has changed massively from the quintessential jock to a caring and courageous individual.

Season 4 also has a scene with James Taylor crooning ‘Fire and Rain’ as Steve tells Nancy how he thought his life would be – cross-country trips with a family, and pictures of happy domesticity. Later, in the Upside Down, Steve confesses to Nancy that he wonders whether things would be different if they were together now. Meanwhile, Nancy only meets Jonathan at the end of the season, with the two of them maintaining a long-distance relationship thus far.

Jonathan, however, keeps his college admission a secret from her, after having lied about it in the first place.

Their love triangle has kept fans guessing and actor Natalia Dyer, who plays Nancy, isn’t sure which way the character will lean. Only the Duffer Brothers, who made the show, seem to have the answer. Speaking to Variety, the 27-year-old said “It’s really tough. I don’t know. It feels like she’s been in a relationship for a while so maybe she needs some self-discovery time”, adding, “It’s a bit complicated. Whatever happens, I would hope that she does it with integrity. I personally had some crunchy feelings about how the whole Jonathan thing started sort of behind Steve’s back. I can’t believe she did that. I mean, I can.”

The actor continued, “I just think she’s stronger now. I think she’s more sure of herself. So whatever she decides to do, she’ll do it for the right reasons.”

Noting how both Steve and her characters have come a long way from the start of the season, Dyer added how things were now between Joe Keery’s character and Nancy. “What this season touches on is the fact that these two people do care about each other and that hasn’t gone away. What that is and what label you want to put on that, I don’t know, but we see these characters meeting again after growing up and going through life with it”, she said, adding, “So that was really lovely to play. It was really fun and touching. Truly, I have no idea where it’s gonna go but I do like that they at least still care about each other.”
