Yousafzai lamented that her husband often fell asleep mid-episode, leaving her to carry on through the sci-fi series from the Duffer brothers. However, the activist who survived an assassination attempt by a Taliban gunman in 2012, at the age of 15, found Vecna a little too much to take. “When I saw [the “Stranger Things” villain] Vecna, I said, ‘I’m going to pause this and watch in the daylight, not the dark”, she said, adding, “I don’t think I’m ready for season 5.”

Vecna is the main antagonist in the latest season and controls much of the Upside Down. He turns out to be One, the first psychic test subject Dr Brenner trained. Eleven was the one who sent him to the Upside Down where he became the villainous creature. While the heroes of Hawkins try to stop Vecna, they only hurt the villain, and he seemingly escapes. Vecna also achieves his plan of opening the portal between the Upside Down and the real world so the universes bleed into each other. This sets up the story for Season 5, which will involve a final showdown between Eleven and One.
