The National Football League (NFL) on Thursday revealed that rappers Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre, Kendrick Lamar along with Rhythm and Blues singer Mary J. Blige will perform at the Super Bowl LVI halftime show on February 13, 2022. 

While the latest season of the NFL is just into the fourth week, plans for the big-money showdown is already well and truly underway.  

The five music icons will share a stage together for the first time at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California next year. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Lamar are Southern California natives.

“The opportunity to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime show, and to do it in my own backyard, will be one of the biggest thrills of my career,” Dr Dre said in a statement. The seven-time Grammy winner added that their halftime performance will an “unforgettable cultural moment.”

Dre also further added that the event will “introduce the next saga of my career.”

The five music artists have a combined 44 Grammys. Eminem has the most with 15.

Roc Nation founder Jay-Z said in a statement that their show will be “history in the making.”

Since 2011, the halftime show has featured pop music performances from performers like Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Coldplay, Lady Gaga to Justin Timberlake.

In the 2021 edition of the Super Bowl, where Tom Brady-powered Tampa Bay Buccaneers downed Kansas City Chiefs, The Weeknd, one of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people of 2020, took the centre stage at halftime.

Meanwhile, Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Blige and Lamar join a list of celebrated musicians who have played during Super Bowl halftime shows, including Beyoncé, Madonna, Coldplay, Katy Perry, U2, Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Shakira and last year’s performer The Weeknd.
