Midnights, the tenth studio album by Taylor Swift will release on Friday, October 21. One of the most anticipated albums of this year, Midnights, as described by Swift, is a concept album inspired by ’13 sleepless nights’ of her life.

Timeline:

2005 – Taylor Swift signed a recording contract with Big Machine Records, an independent label.

June 2006 – Taylor Swift’s first single Tim McGraw was released. It was her first chart entry on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

October 2006 – Swift’s self-titled debut studio album was released to critical acclaim and commercial success. It became the longest-charting album of the 2000’s decade on the Billboard 200.

February 2008 – Swift earned her first Grammy nomination at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards.

November 2008 – Her second studio album Fearless was released and became the top-selling album in the U.S. in 2009.

April 2009 to July 2010 – Swift headlined her debut concert tour, Fearless Tour, in support of her second album.

September 2009 – Her acceptance speech at the MTV Music Awards was interrupted by rapper Kanye West, drawing widespread media attention and controversy.

January 2010 – Swift became the youngest artist to win Album of The Year in the history of Grammy Awards.

October 2010 – Her third studio album Speak Now was released, becoming the fastest-selling digital album by a female artist.

October 2012 – Release of Swift’s fourth studio album, Red. The album was ranked at number 99 by Rolling Stones’ 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

October 2014 – Swift’s fifth studio album, 1989 is released. The album won the Album of The Year award at the 58th Grammy Awards, making Swift the first solo female artist to win the accolade twice.

May to December 2015 – The 1989 World Tour became the highest-grossing tour of the year, earning $250 million in total revenue.

August 2017 – After taking a one-year hiatus from the public spotlight, and clearing all her social media, Taylor Swift released Look What You Made Me Do, the lead single from her sixth album, Reputation. The single was named pop music’s most memorable comeback in recent history.

November 2017 – Her album Reputation is released. It became the second-best-selling album of the year. It was also her last album with Big Machine Records.

May to November 2018 – Swift embarked on the Reputation Stadium Tour in support of her album Reputation. The tour became the highest-grossing U.S. tour by a woman in history.

November 2018 – Swift signed a new recording deal with Republic Records, owned by Universal Music Group.

June 2019 – Swift got into a public dispute with her former record label Big Machine Records. The label’s new owner Scooter Braun acquired all rights to the masters of Swift’s first six albums and blocked her from using her own songs at Award functions.

August 2019 – Her seventh studio-album Lover was released. The album made Swift the first female artist to have six consecutive albums sell more than 500,000 copies in one week in the US.

July 2020 – Taylor Swift released her eighth album Folklore as a surprise album during the Covid-19 pandemic.

December 2020 – Swift’s ninth studio album, and another surprise album, Evermore was released. Swift became the world’s highest-paid solo musician that year.

April 2021 – Following the dispute with her former record label, Swift re-recorded and released her album Fearless, adding ‘Taylor’s Version’ to the title.

November 2021 – Taylor Swift released the 10-minute version of her song All Too Well as a promotional single for her re-recorded album Red (Taylor’s Version). The song broke the Guinness World Record for the longest Billboard Hot-100 number-one song of all time. She released the album the same month.

August 2022 – During her acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards, Swift announced her tenth studio-album Midnight. The album will release on October 21, 2022.
