Hannah Waddingham was nominated for Emmys for her amazing portrayal of Rebecca Welton, owner of the football club AFC Richmond in the TV show Ted Lasso. At the beginning of the show, Welton hoped that the Richmond club would fail. She hired Ted Lasso as she believed that he would help in closing down the company.

Welton tried her best to sabotage AFC Richmond’s success. The reason behind her attempts to close down the company was that it belonged to her ex-husband who had cheated on her. She strived to sabotage the football club as it was cherished by her husband Rupert Mannion.

Rebecca Welton’s attempt to destroy her husband’s company goes in vain when she realises that whatever she’s done to fail the team was not right. She then apologises for the harm she’s caused to Ted Lasso and the company.

From then she became one of the most loved characters on the show. She sincerely asks Higgins to come back to work whom she had belittled and insulted. She had also comforted Ted when he suffered an anxiety attack. She also asked her best friend’s forgiveness for drifting apart due to her marriage with Mannion.

Welton’s willingness to set everything right proved that she was never a bad person. She only wanted justice for everything she had sacrificed in her marriage to Mannion.

Welton breaks the stereotype of ‘career women,’ who are usually portrayed as powerful, lonely, unfriendly and indifferent to others. But Welton was shown as someone who has friends, a family and she also shows emotion. She defies the typical successful woman stereotype as she has an excellent career and she is also happy.
